The new Sentinels are run by the Office of National Emergency (ONE), a branch of Homeland Security. As first seen in Sentinel Squad O.N.E. #1, these Sentinels may look like the old lumbering models, but these new machines incorporate offensive and defensive improvements from SHIELD and multiple design upgrades from Tony Stark (with an assist by Reed Richards). Built to protect mutants, these are not your father’s Sentinels.

Stark added hundreds of new features and enhancements. Enhancement number one: these new Sentinels are piloted, so they can’t go rogue like in the past. In fact, there’s a whole squadron operated by military-trained pilots. Some of the world’s most sophisticated hardware, the design, construction, and training took just three months.

A hover disc, located in the heel, ejects to allow the pilot to fly up and enter the suit from the back port. A hatch leads to a state-of-the-art control room, customized to the pilot. The cockpit is located just behind the chestbeam lense.

These incredible machines are piloted by one person, who, for their six month tour, live inside the Sentinel full-time. As a result, each mecha has a fully furnished living quarters (a.k.a. the dorm).

Comm equipment includes high-tech imaging arrays for heads-up display and full combat immersion and team communication.

Armaments: hand and chest repulsors; wrist missiles; and other enhancements designed to work the unique talents and abilities of each individual unit’s pilot.

Pilots wear special flight suits. Enhanced with electrodes to stimulate their musculature and keep them in fit during the long missions (sitting).

Known Models

Stealth: Built for sneakiness, it has extra large cloaking modules.

Recon: Packed with surveillance equipment and enhanced government database access.

Ballistic: Heavy weaponry-equipped, with added missile capabilities and a shoulder mounted laser cannon.

Brawler: Built more fortified than the standard unit, it’s made for close combat and to withstand a tremendous amount of punishment. It’s got triple-plated armor and a protective adamantium chestplate as well as reinforced hydraulics to give it extra strength. And this beauty packs a serious punch.

Plus a standard model and other classified units (some manga/samaraui-like models were seen in Black Panther #22).
