Explaining the Evader Armor . . . this disposable armor marked the first time Tony Stark sold Iron Man technology outright.
Originally intended as a single-use escape suit for those without bodyguards-but the money to pay for it-the Evader Armor, a.k.a. Personal Defense Armor, Model I, Mark I, began as a pared-down defensive armor in Iron Man: Bad Blood #1,but evolved into a formidable weapon for one of Stark's greatest foes: Justin Hammer. Using components that were already public, Stark's original design called for a disposable armor that could fit into a briefcase, blunt small arms fire and carry enough fuel to get its owner to safety. And because customers of the disposable armor would not have the flying experience of Iron Man, he designed the Automatic Collision Avoidance Program, although the program wasn't perfected. An innocent enough beginning, but the concept itself came out of a brain already infected with Justin Hammer's bad blood. Imagining that his profit picture would be enormous, the ill Tony Stark pushed aside his past security and moral concerns engineering a formidable design with entrepreneurial zeal. As his blood became more and more evil, his plans for the Evader Armor became much more aggressive. Offered eight figures for the prototype, greed, if not malice, soon became the overriding design principle as weapons were added. The model features oxygen-fed jets in the boots, with sealed thrusters designed to function underwater and in space. A self-contained design, the jets only carry a limited amount of fuel, reducing their range. Although Stark had the forethought to integrate a Remote Shutdown override feature into the design to protect his overall control of the armors (to prevent a third Armor War), Hammer disabled the function when he took possession of the suits. Armaments: Breach Canon with dispersal aiming; Wrist-Mounted Micro Lasers on each arm; "Cyclops" Beam on forehead (capable of cutting Iron Man's own Outer Atmospheric Armor). Current Status: Only four suits were built, all were damaged in combat with Iron Man. At present they are in the custody of SHIELD, who recovered them from Hammer's space fortress. |
