In the Seventies and early Eighties, both Marvel and DC heroes were tapped for use in a Hostess Ad campaign featured exclusively in comic books. The Ads focused on a villian stealing the cup cakes, or Twinkies, etc., and the hero rescuing the tasty treat for all to enjoy. Take a look at Shellhead in this 1977 ad:
