Iron Man raked in $582,030,528 worldwide ($318.4 million domestic; $263.6 million foreign--see Box Office Mojo for more).  So it’s no surprise Shellhead will be back in Iron Man 2, but let’s not forget how great the first one is.

Directed by Jon Favreau, Iron Man began shooting in March 2007 with Robert Downey, Jr., starring as Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist who creates an awesome robo-suit after sustaining a massive heart wound in Afghanistan and then uses it to fight crime.

With an estimated budget of $140 million, the movie debuted on May 2, 2008 to critical and fan praise--not to mention a $98.6 million dollar opening weekend.

The film also starred Terrence Howard as James Rhodes, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane.

A fairly faithful adaptation of Iron Man’s origin crossed with the Obadiah Stane and Iron Monger storyline, Iron Man is the essence of the character updated for the modern times.  Stark, the playboy inventor, goes to Afghanistan to show off one of his new weapons, only to be wounded by his a weapon of his own design.

Half-dead and held captive by terrorists, Stark is helped by Yinsen to build a life-sustaining weapon: a kick-butt suit of armor, which Stark uses to escape.

Back in the world, Stark begins to have misgivings about his legacy: the weapons he’s introduced into the world.  Determined to make a fresh start and to use his genius for good--and more than a little distracted by being Iron Man--Stark naively leaves the business side of things to his father figure Obadiah Stane, who promptly undermines Stark’s do-goodism.  Tied in with a secret cabal of guys who happen to wear spiffy rings--cough, Mandarin, cough--Stane turns the Iron Man armor into a weapon, setting up a titanic armored showdown.
